The Breathing Association

The Breathing Association had a very positive experience with both John Hulina and Juel Hood. We have been successfully using Salesforce to collect and report client data to United Way for five years. However, as a small non-profit health care organization, we have grown over the past two years and added new sources of income with multiple new reporting requirements. Because funding is closely tied to reporting accurate, confidential demographic and patient data, we needed to upgrade Salesforce to accommodate these new demands. With changing costs/values for medications and in-kind services, we were left with a large amount of data to collect and a need to provide clear reports that could change over time without losing old data for each patient. The robustness of Salesforce combined with the creative reporting methodologies developed by John and Juel have given us the ability to provide multiple, accurate reports in a timely manner without overburdening our small staff with multiple data entry requirements. The training and training tools they provided allow us to keep the system up to date without requiring additional TA. As a non-techi, I was extremely grateful for their patience and willingness to work with me in spite of my lack of knowledge. Both they and Saleforce make it easy for me to be a Salesforce "administrator" with little knowledge of computer language. In the future we will make every effort to request funds from new grantors to engage ATP to keep Salesforce compatible with the data we are required to collect and report.

Situation Overview

Peabody, Massachusetts-based Synventive Molding Solutions is one of the world's leading manufacturers of hot runner systems and hot runner components. With a focus on providing high-quality products and value-added services, Synventive delivers complete solutions for all types of plastic injection molding applications and serves customers in the premium consumer & electronics, automotive, industrial, medical and packaging markets.

The company operates with manufacturing in the United States, Germany and China and has over 700 employees. The company's IT team, lead by Director Barry Moushegian, plans to consolidate business applications using Epicor 9. In fact, the company owned the software for more than 10 years before finding the right implementation partner. With more than 225 users in three locations, this consolidation would be a considerable challenge and the company needed to meet a deadline with the U.S plant coming online first, followed by the plant in China and then Germany. The goal is to operate the business as one cohesive unit from a sales and manufacturing perspective with unprecedented visibility, so that communication and knowledge sharing could happen on a daily business. No easy task for a business that operates three manufacturing plants and numerous sales offices around the world.

With Alternative Technology Solutions, Synventive found the right collaborator to achieve its goals.

Implementation and Challenges

According to Barry Moushegian, Alternative developed a comprehensive and detailed plan to ensure their goal of going live with the U.S. plant in seven months could be met. With a strong upfront investment on planning and taking a best practices approach, the collaboration yielded solid results. Alternative's consultants ran planning sessions where common business practices were identified, which enabled the implementation to have a strong head start. Alternative also helped Synventive with global project management to bring the other two plants online with Epicor9.

Alternative helped Synventive's team with numerous technical and process-related issues that set the foundation for the implementation team to complete the vast majority of the implementation work themselves. This started with a prototyping session, where the Alternative consultants and Synventive team worked hand-in-hand. A first pilot provided a valuable "reality check," according to Moushegian, by identifying gaps in communication, process and business needs. The second pilot worked extremely well on fully converted data. After that, the third and fourth pilots were handled entirely by Synventive with Alternative consultants on standby.

The go live went smoothly. The result of this process was that the Synventive team had the confidence, capabilities and system knowledge to manage many of the challenges on their own. Synventive's team even handled financial consolidation integration entirely on their own.

Results

Situation Overview

New Orleans-based GenoVive LLC recently introduced the first weight loss program that uses a person's DNA and a customized meal plan for a personalized approach to weight loss. This new program, created by the GenoVive scientists and chefs, tailors home-delivered meal programs and exercise plans to each unique metabolism and empowers consumers to achieve their weight loss goals. The company's all natural meals are prepared to the specification of GenoVive's dietician and chef, and shipped from the company's headquarters in New Orleans. The company needed an ERP system to monitor and track its meal components, sales and accounting functions and selected Epicor 9 and Magento eCommerce solution.

GenoVive tapped Alternative Technology Solutions to assist in customizing Epicor 9 for their specific needs and develop the bridge to connect Magento with Epicor 9 and provide implementation support for both solutions.

Implementation

According to Jim Miller, Executive Vice President at GenoVive, the decision to choose Epicor knowingly came with challenges. The system is more robust than a start-up would ordinarily need but the company sought a solution that would grow as GenoVive grew. GenoVive needed to join its consumer-direct sales website to the Epicor system, manage its food and packaging inventory and easily run reports. Epicor can run more than one company or business unit, and this is key for GenoVive's future plans.

GenoVive intended to use the e-commerce component of Epicor but it ultimately did not work effectively, and the company chose Magento's Enterprise eCommerce platform for its shopping cart function.

The most significant challenge was the bridge between Magento and Epicor. Alternative's product, Connect for Commerce bridges the data gap between these two solutions. Connect delivers real-time integration enabling Magento to seamlessly integrate to Epicor. Connect for Commerce includes a bidirectional synchronization of customers and ship-to addresses, integration of Epicor parts and price lists to Magento products and tiered pricing. In GenoVive's case, this involved foods and packaging, and converting Magento orders to Epicor orders for packaging, shipment and credit card payment processing.

Alternative built this integration and took GenoVive live in five weeks.

Results

GenoVive successfully launched in August 2011, and has seen sales grow steadily over the months.

"Alternative helped us get through everything we needed to get the system running, process sales transactions, record sales properly, charge the right taxes, and so much more," Miller said.

We are a very lean company, and did not have the resources for our people to spend time to understand Epicor and still do their jobs. The Corporate Challenge

With 24 office seats and 8 MES licenses in two locations, RT Logic’s ERP implementation faced stringent testing, validation and schedule requirements. The new EPICOR9 system needed to bridge financial data to Integral System’s business system, while fitting the operational model of RT Logic. Key Requirements For Technology and a Partner

RT Logic needed a specialized partner to aid in the system transition; to train members of the organization on the tools required to build the data bridge and to help the company maximize the benefits of its new ERP system.

Using the EPICOR Data Migration Tool (DMT), with support from Alternative’s technical consultants, RT Logic was also able to manage its own data migration. DMT is also a post-implementation tool used in new Bill of Materials imports from CAD packages.

According to Smith, Alternative brought a set of tools to this implementation that provided new options for how to accomplish the project. Their level of industry knowledge, particularly in the electronic industry and printed circuit assemblies was invaluable and provided key insights.

Epicor 9 Upgrade

According to Ross Sivertsen, Director of Technology Services for Peerless, the upgrade to E9 was a challenge for an already overworked user community. They were multi-tasking to meet business deadlines and working overtime to learn and adapt to the new system. A considerable volume of ticket issues added to the challenges. The volume of issues almost “paralyzed our team from moving forward,” Sivertsen noted.
